Keeping Quiet ( Pablo Neruda)
(Analysis by Baljit Singh)

Summary of the poem-:

Keeping Quiet is a short and beautiful poem written by Pablo Neruda. It conveys a great message. It lays importance on keeping quiet. The poet tells us that we must keep quiet for some time and look within and examine . He calls it a moment of quite introspection. By doing so we will have a unique experience. We will suspend all activities for  few moments. It will give us a feeling of togetherness, brotherhood and love. We will love each other and there will be peace in the world. The poet says that we will be able to end wars in this way. But the poet says that our quietness and stillness should not be confused with total inactivity. Inactivity is death while activity is life. He means to say that quietness and calmness is essential for a fresh and better activity. He gives the example of  earth in winter season.  In winter the earth seems to be dead but when spring comes, it glows with new life and energy. Similarly, man can resume his activities in a fresh and better manner after a little silence and stillness.
